gwadzilla is moving to vauban!

gwadzilla is moving to vauban
read about vauban here

this was shared with me
so I share it with you

if only the city planners who are rebuilding new orleans could think like this
but no...
they will just build things as they were
repeating the same set of failures

much like the bridge on my street
the bridge had issues with standing water after it rained
then they did millions of dollars of work on the bridge
and then after it rains
there are issues with standing water

okay... I do not know what it costs to fix that bridge
but I do know that it has the same failures it had before the repairs
and no... I am not moving
which is for the best
as I do not speak german

It is so easy to take shots at a city when it is down. Instead of making criticisms why don't you come down here and help make a difference.
New Orleans Lives!

it is not an issue of New Orleans being live or dead...

it is an issue of embracing the cyclist
and creating a bike friendly city
not a bicycle utopia as that is a dream concept
but a city that puts the bicycle as a priority

more than bike lanes
bike route
bike friendly approaches to town centers
etc.

have they restructured the city

are their roads that are bike only during rush hour?

what are they doing?

is there a program distrubuting bicycles to people
to get them out of their cars and onto bicycles?

I can talk about it
I have a job here

but
there are people who are urban planners down there
and I am certain that the bicycle is not a priority
I could be wrong
but
I doubt it

my statement was not about the condition of the city of New Orleans
my statement was about the potential to build a bicycle friendly enviorment

a flat area
with a mild climate
lots of people who can not afford cars
sure sounds like the bicycle could be part of the solution
for a better tomorrow

A charming fellow who lives in Vauban posted some more information about living in the place here:

I thought you might be interested.

I would love to find out otherwise, but I am certain you are right.

theboy-

thanks for the additional information
and yes
I know little about the city planning going on in New Orleans
but
I know that I am looking for the slightest recognition of the rights of bicycles in dc and I am not getting a very warm response
