this is something that should spread through the DC Schools
this is common sense
this is a good campaign*
TAXI CAB COMPANIES SHOULD BE APPROACHED
DC METROPOLITAN POLICE**AND ALL OTHER LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES SHOULD BE APPROACHED
*25MPH is a good goal
but perhaps in some situations irrational
years ago with the birth of my first child I tried driving the speed limit
it evokes anger in the drivers around you which escalates to dangerous/aggressive passing
**the DC police are just as negligent behind the wheel as every other asshole with a license
chatting on the phone
text messaging
not yielding to pedestrians or cyclists
speeding
an driving with basic disregard

I have to say that I'm one of those people that get annoyed at those who insist on going 25mph, the rest of traffic be damned. It is, generally, a finger in the eye of the social custom that's been built up over a stretch of road. And a sign dedicated to highlighting the willingness to give that finger? Does not engender much good will from me, I'm afraid. It reminds me of the people who drive at 55mph quite purposefully in the left lane of the freeway.
I'm quite in favor of safe speeds. But it is not always 25mph (and some times 25mph is way too fast!). One size fits all never works, does it?

getting people to think when they drive would be fantastic
25mph is already the speed limit (not minimum but limit) on most if not all residential streets in DC. True, road engineering often makes the roads wide and straight enough to make driving faster seem obligatory, but the speed limit is there for a reason.
The chances of a pedestrian or cyclist surviving a crash with a car is significantly higher at 25mph than it is at 40mph. Slow down, give yourself 5 extra minutes to get where you are going and it will save lives.
We have a similar program in Santa Cruz.
I'm annoyed by "left lane boulders" also on the freeways, MB, but that's not what this program is about. Please slow down on those residential streets. Your slight inconvenience is not worth the life taken by your unsafe driving. Have you noticed parents often forbid their children from playing outside now because of traffic safety concerns?
the kids on our block do play outside
that is why we are trying to get people to slow down
but oddly enough
there are residents with kids who speed down the alley
funny
the risks outweigh the gains
yet they continue to zoom through the alley
