Woo-hoo! Joel, You're keeping up with me... awesome! I know your post is ancient but I just saw this today. I thought of you last week when I was in DC briefly. I stopped on NH Ave. near Dupont when I saw a girl struggling with her fixed gear. She had hit a pothole and didn't know how to get her chain back on. It was raining, she was flustered.... had borrowed the bike, was missing class, sopping wet... She was rolling in no time after I was done with it. The smile on her face was priceless. Hooray! I miss rolling around a town with real bike lanes. West Hollywood has the right idea but generally, LA is dangerous. I brave it a few times a week, riding around my 'hood and up to Sunset or to the beach or down PCH/Malibu, but I long for those crisp Washington autumn mornings!
