DC would do well to try something like this

In Charleston South Carolina they are closing off a business district to cars on the second Sunday of each month allowing pedestrians and cyclists to take to the streets

for years I have felt that Washington DC would do well to try something like this...

Georgetown... Capital Hill... even Bethesda Avenue in Bethesda http://charleston.thedigitel.com

I am not sure if our main bicycle advocacy group has such things on their agenda

DC [and DDOT in particular] has attempted to do something like this for the past few years - but DC Emergency Management Agency, MPD and others have a real problem with roads being closed for certain reason. I've heard that several blocks of either K St and 14th St NW were proposed, but shot down by city higher-ups. It's really too bad - this could work here, but instead we get a few hundred feet of a little used park in SE [See the 'feet in the street' event]
