Bike Lanes are great...
but Bike Lanes are separation not acceptance
for a city to be bike friendly there needs to be more than the creation of Bike Lanes and a Bike Share System
for a city to be bicycle friendly there needs to be change in the thinking and the behavior of the car drivers
this has yet to happen
people are still inconsiderate of the cyclist's right to space
car drivers still approach cyclists in the road as if they are obstacles instead of people
there is very little behavior that makes me think that car drivers believe that bicyclist have as much right to the road as car drivers
there needs to be a change in the thinking and the behavior of the city's car culture before I can accept that Washington DC has become Bicycle Friendly
this may all fall back on the notion of selfishness
and well
that is something that would be tough to reverse
