Dear Montgomery County Cyclist,
With
the glow of the largest Bike to Work Day in history still shinning and
the recent announcement of bikesharing coming to Montgomery County, it
is time for Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) to
get serious about supporting the growth of bicycling.
The
Montgomery County’s Bicycle Coordinator position has been vacant for
three months. MCDOT is planning not to hire a replacement.
This
is at a time when Montgomery County should be increasing its mileage of
on- and off-street protected bikeways, creating a bicycle education
program and pushing forward in earnest on major trail projects such as
the Metropolitan Branch Trail and the Capital Crescent Trail.
Please
take a minute and ask MCDOT Director Art Holmes to support the growth
of bicycling in Montgomery County by hiring a Bicycle Coordinator to
provide staff support to the many biking initiatives that need to be
implemented in the near-term. Director Holmes needs to hear that bicycling is important to you.
Thank you for your help in growing bicycling in Montgomery County,
Greg Billing
