in my personal experience I have found that most people do not see the cyclist and it is best for the cyclist to be in control with their hands on the handlebars and fingers near the brakes
but I guess I signal sometimes
but most of the time...
I try to move like a ghost... not expecting car drivers to slow or stop for me
