Dischord Records was one of the many sponsors of The Dead City Alleycat...

Dischord Records was a sponsor of The Dead City Alleycat 2021

Ian of Dischord was generous enough to sponsor this event by sending a stack of vinyl and a sign copy of the 20 Years of Dischord Box Set

no more Heller's Bakery
no more a few other things

When reaching out to Dischord Records for support for the Dead City Alleycat there was some hesitation... first... Dischord does not normally sponsor events... an email came back from a person I know in Dischord Merchandise department with a gentle refusal and then a few days later this...
Ian emails me... in email exchange with Ian MacKaye, Ian voiced doubt that anyone would be interested in CD (as in, who still has a cd player?) and also questioned if the records would be of interest to the Washington DC bike messengers... wondering if racers would want to have to carry the 12 inch vinyl around while they raced

it was explained that the prizes would be given at the end of the race to winners and then also a raffle, which shifted Ian to a question of "this or that?" to which I responded something to the effect of "either or" while hinting that both would work

Ian\Dischord Records sent over a stack of records including some Minor Threat, Chain and the Gang, Two Compilation Albums, a few other 12 inches and then also Ian signed the 20 Years of Dischord Box Set with the words "Dead City Alleycat - Ian" OH SMACK! THAT IS COOL!!! That Ups the Fun Factor!!!
DannyK placed first and he went straight for the box of Dischord Records... snagged the sign 20 Years of Dischord box set an then I had to slow his momentum... managing to stop him taking more than was planned... DannyK grabbed Minor Threat Out of Step
then someone donated their trip to the prize table to Syd Ramsey (who was in the top three finishers, but scored an Incomplete of Manifest I) who went straight for a Minor Threat 12 inch with Alec MacKaye on the cover...

in addition to Dischord Records being a sponsor... the makers of the film Punk the Capitol also showed some love by sending a stack of DVDs... each person who took an album also got a copy of this film... need to catch up with Syd... he has not gotten his copy yet... only moderately ironic... the guy at Dischord merchandise worked on the film Punk the Capitol and well... I was good friends with his older sister when in high school and college... so I knew him as Lindsay's young brother Sam... now I just know him as Sam...
passed off a Punk the Capital - a history of Washington DC punk & hardcore, 1976 to 1983 to DannyK... will get a DVD to Syd later this week to go with his vinyl...
thanks Dischord Records for your support... it was greatly appreciate...
thanks Ian... signing that CD case really upped the cool factor!
