Tall Bikes at the Dead City Alleycat... that David O La for your help with the Tall Bikes and several other aspects of this event...
David is so Punk that when he is at work he often looks like the cover of LONDON CALLING by The Clash...
I met David a few years ago at a DC Alleycat...
we rode and raced together a few times and became friends
in our various discussions I kept returning to the notion that I wanted to build a tall bike
David also wanted to build a tall bike
David's being a welder who has built tall bikes before gave this notion promise
so... David and I met up and built some tall bikes
it was a team project
the Tall Bike is often a FRANKENBIKE
these bikes were a meld of many different bikes
we ended up building two bikes
one with a sloping top tube bike on the top
the other with two light weight frames
the two bikes could not be more different
the bike with the sloping top tube is a lead sled
both the frames are lower end bikes
the wheels are 26 inch wheels that are non pneumatic
those TIRES ARE SOLID
while the other bike has all sorts of parts that belong on a road racing machine
the frames are light weight
Cervello Brakes
Carbon Seat Post
etc. etc. etc.
in the end...
we had two wonderful tall bikes
a great addition to the DC Cycling Community
thanks Bennet at Big Wheel for the Green Schwinn
thanks Christian of Velocity Bicycle Coop for the ladies Columbia three speed
those bikes together made a wonderful lead sled with random parts off an abandoned Lime Bike
David not only worked on building the Tall Bikes with me...
David was also involved in the design, printing, and hanging the wheat paste posters of Ghost of the DC Streets
then of course...
David helped with marking the course from Embassy to Embassy
all the way down to XXX Line Line on the streets which were do not enter for the route
SICK!
then lastly... David along with Angel ran the Tall Bike Check Point at Sherman Circle
at the end of the evening as I was scoring the manifests...
yes... it took a long time to score the manifest
I realize that... I was scoring those manifests
David had to leave
before David had to leave I passed of a bag of SWAG that I felt that David had earned...
it was a tote bag from SMASH Records in Adams Morgan
in that tote bag there were a variety of items
there were some CBD Items from Floyds of Leadville
a long sleeve Giddy Up Courier shirt from Pro Tested Gear
and lastly...
a mug and coffee from Lamplighter coffee...
there was a nice presentation and hand off that gave me a chance to highlight the products
unfortunately... I lost the crowd
by the time awards were done
the mischief of Halloween had set in
so many things left the table without authorization
that is frustrating
but unfortunately... such behavior is too common
like leaving a full bowl of candy out on Halloween
don't be shocked if one person takes all the contents of the bowl for themselves
