The Dead City Alleycat 2021 was the Ghosts of the DC Streets theme... places, people, and things that are no longer part of DC... a messenger of days past showed up and did his first Alleycat
so... the Dead City Alleycat 2021 was a nod to DC past...
there were places that are no longer as they once were...
Barrel House Liquor and the Old 9:30 Club
then there were wheat paste photos of messengers who are now deceased
as well as a Spoke Card of a messenger who was hit and nearly killed... so he was back from the dead
on top of that I sent out the invite to a number of messengers past...
Zach Chariot Brown came out to race... showed some spirt by wearing a costume...
Rebecca Reilly aka Lambchop showed up to say hello
and then a messenger from 80's rolled up and at the last minute decided to race
that messenger would be Chauncey Brothers
above is a shot from Regardies magazine in the mid 1980's
Chauncey is the man in the photo at the bottom of the page
quite a time capsule
a different world... a different time
here is a link to the Regardies article on the Gwadzilla page
all the photos should be available on one of those links
then below...
two more shots from Regardies Magazine
on the left is my buddy Major
Major was one cool dude...
he was ahead of his time with yoga and vegetarianism
Major rocked that classic Cannondale with the 26 inch wheel in the front and the 24 inch wheel in the rear... he moved out west...
I always wondered what happened to Major
then... on the right is Jim Rapp
Jim Rapp aka Featherhead
I know what happened to Jim... after prison he was afflicted with MS where he declined slowly and then eventually died too soon
the story of Jim Rapp ends in tragedy
but in his moment
Jim Rapp was some serious energy in the DC Messenger Scene
always adding to the party
there is a City Paper Article that Jim Rapp wrote from jail
chase down that City Paper Article
it will amuse and intrigue you
