when Mount Pleasant was filled with group houses... I had a neighbor who was in the news... not Jim Rapp... but Ian Thomas!
Doonesbury comic from May 2001
yes... on the 1700 Block of Lamont Street in Mount Pleasant
in a time of group houses
back when couples had kids and evacuated the city as soon as their gifts to the world learned to read
yes... a different time
a different Mount Pleasant
a different city all together...
this was curious...
in the Bush Era there was this notion of the Alaska Pipeline and then the impact on the wildlife in these areas
well... one GIS mapping contractor created a map and put that map online
that map was of the proposed pipeline with an overlay of the caribou migratory calving routes
or something to that effect
of course this map was met with disfavor
the GIS specialist who was said to be a genius... not just in his mapping skills but in his chess playing was AXED... there was the subtlety that the maps were not current so the data was not accurate
or something to that effect
still... cool little piece of Mount Pleasant neighborhood history of an Ian other than Dischord's Ian
Ian Thomas has an HTML page telling his story
