DC Punks Hanging at the Roy Rogers in Georgetown
I have felt that the interesting story of the DC Punk Scene that has not been told is the story about the scene
the DC Hardcore "scene" was filled with colorful characters
the list goes beyond "the original 50" punk kids that surrounded the first 10 Dischord releases
yes...
What about the scene?
What about the "Scensters?"
yes... Tom Berand... but we need to go beyond Tom
although Tom is the "Kilroy Was Here" of the DC Scene
no offense Tom
there are some characters that people key in on when they discuss the DC Scene in the 80's...
Lefty is one name that comes to mind...
there could be a documentary based solely upon the story of Lefty
and then... the tangents
punk rock bicycle couriers
punk rock skateboarders
stories from RAR aka Rock Against Racism\Rock Against Reagan
so many stories to tell
sure... Minor Threat
we all love Minor Threat
but...
there was more to the DC scene that Minor Threat \Dischord and the people that surrounded that label and those bands
there were many camps
all sorts of bands
and
all sorts of labels
Teen Beat - Touch and Go - to name a few...
people would reach out to Dischord and be shut down
so... they started their own labels
as in so many ways Dischord was an incestuous little group
the same dozen or so musicians trading off and playing in different bands with different players drawn from the same pool
there are three movies competing to tell a different perspective of the DC Music scene
and
still waiting for the movie about the DC Scene...
