Listening to the Singles Soundtrack... I had some of the albums they picked songs from...

A great collection of songs!

What a time capsule!

SINGLES... The Soundtrack
and sure...
Singles... The Movie

I never owned the "Singles Soundtrack"
but I did own a number of the albums that they picked the songs from
then also...
not sure if I ever say the film... if I did... it certainly was not at the time of its' theater release

it was sort of like the MTV Real World
I felt as if I was already living in the Real World at that moment
so... why would I have to follow the antics of another group house on television
okay... I may have watched Season One of The Real World

daydream tangent...
the DC music scene of this same era was very cool
very different than Seattle... but also very similar
very easily a film could have been made about Washington DC during those same years
Mount Pleasant could be its center
the various band houses in the neighborhood
the overlaps of the messenger culture
group houses in general
with a DC Singles Soundtrack

Columbia Heights?
Crack on the Corner?
The Mount Pleasant Riots?
Mount Pleasant Sniper?
(not the same as the DC Sniper)
and then the US Government at a backdrop

hmmm... what year exactly?
could there be liberties taken having bands that existed in slightly different times to be represented

Fugazi practice on Irving Street
then up the block a Dischord style group house with a number of housemates from different bands
there could be a jump to Glover Park for Alec and Jenn's house...
and move it over the bridge to Arlington for Dischord house and Dag House
then back to Mount Pleasant for The Embassy which housed Ulysses\The Make-UP

that whole classic car thing...
it was a competition to see who looked most like James Dean
Jason Farrell "fit into those pants" perfectly
with a dozen other men in work shirts, black leather shoes, and perfectly quaffed hair all tied for second

then move to a different record label... get off Dischord and crash a Teen Beat party...
there were many camps with different leaders of each camp
show up awkwardly to a Straight Edge Positive Force Party
there would have to be a thousand memories

toss in a show at The Wilson Center or Pearce Hall?
DC Space... the old 9:30
COMMUNITY CENTER SHOWS!?!?!

what? yes...
teen age promoters...
DIY!
teen agers setting up their own shows
advertising their own shows
(word of mouth and flyers)
and then
playing their own shows

and well of course...
there you have it
a DC version of SINGLES
I can not wait to see it
