it was fun to create the quasi educational Lincoln themed Alleycat...
it was interesting how many and also how few Lincoln Statues there are in DC
I guess three is enough
as it is Washington DC and not Lincoln DC
so...
Lincoln Memorial and Lincoln Statue at the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and then Lincoln Park...
but what else?
well... there is Lincoln Road
then also
there are a number of apartments and condos with Lincoln in the name
well... it all adds up pretty fast
but what else... what else could make it fun?
THE WILD CARD!
the fun moment of the Alleycat I fee was the Penny Machine
there was a 100 Point Bonus Check Point
to pick up a Flattened Lincoln Penny
I recommended change to people...
I had some change...
people may have ended up not needing change
Union Station - Ford's Theatre - Hard Rock Cafe - Washington Welcome Center- Old Town Trolley - International Spy Museum at L'Enfant - Smithsonian Institution Building (The Castle)- Smithsonian American Art Museum - Smithsonian National Museum of American History - Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History - Smithsonian's National Zoological Park - Washington National Cathedral - White House Visitor's Center
PICK ONE!
ANY ONE!
after the race there was mention...
the statue in Lincoln Park is racist
I can see this... but I can also see how such a discussion can educate
no statue... no conversation...
potentially racist statue... potentially insightful conversation
NY Times Article about Lincoln Park Statue and an effort to remove it
the manifest was not in order...
the racers had to determine their trajectory
there were photo check points and there were questions
I hate the questions as they can be Googled or Shared
lots of farming for answers
it is not uncommon in these events
All Selfies All the Time
sure... that can be boring...
but it removes efforts to farm answers
I created two very similar manifests to try and prevent some of this
I did not realize how much I should have done this
maybe 4 different manifests?
at Lincoln Theater there is a life like sculpture of Lincoln
I asked who the artist's was... many people wrote down his first name as it were two names...
not as two long confusing names as displayed underneath the sculpture
an article in DCist seemed like it could have been where people got their answers
DANG MILLENIALS!
at the race onset I said it was a race to be done on the bicycle
not a bunch of riddles to be solved on your computer
oh well...
it went well...
I toured the course on race day
interacted with some racers
got distracted
arrived at the finish after the first racers
but knew I would have DannyK there to collect manifests
more on this later
