it has been a whirlwind of a spring...
Grant winding up his academics at Wilson High School
and then
the Senior Spring Rowing Season
WHICH WAS DYNAMIC FOR THE WILSON VARSITY 8!!
(both men's and women!)
then ontop of school... life... and sports
so many forces pulling in so many directions
there was talk of the priority of Beach Week... Prom... and Graduation!
but...
after the Stotesbury and SRAA Victories
the Wilson Coaching Staff wanted to push the team with this momentum to race at the next level
Grant was given the choice
Junior Nationals in Sarasota or Prom?
Henley in England or Graduation?
Grant was torn
it was a struggle that I did very little to sway him on
Grant is a mature young man
this is his journey
my suggestion was to go to the races
all the while saying that not realizing that Lucy was Prom Queen
Grant played in his mind the options
then eventually it was decided
Grant would attend the youth nationals in Florida
then...
Grant would attend Wilson Graduation and then fly out days after the team for the Henley
being the Captain and the Stroke position and the team's fastest 2K has its privileges
well... the Wilson Varsity 8 did not have the race that they had set out for in Florida
the competition was stiff
it was the best best of the best
and the boats at the top were next level
not qualifying for the main event on Sunday
Grant was able to negotiate early return to make it to Prom
what a juggling act!
I think he jumped out of his rowing uni and into the suit
with the water of Sarasota as the cologne for the evening
Lucy was overjoyed to have Grant by her side
and vice versa
or so I have transposed from the story that was told to me
Grant was able to make prom
but was not able to make the requisite monument photos
so...
Lucy and Grant obliged me
dressed up a few evenings later
we did a quick run through the monuments with the camera
nice to share this moment with them
Lucy was Prom Queen!
Congratulations Lucy!
Not sure why we did to use the crown in any of the photos
