The City Needs MORE PUBLIC TOILETS... but... but there is a BUTT!

Washington DC could use MORE public toilets...

Downtown there SHOULD be more public toilets...

In the various parks and on the various trails around the city... there could be the need to put in some public toilets...

Semi-recently there was the installation of toilets at Pearce Mill... over due...
so many people meet to go for rides and hikes from this spot
then also
so many people gather for events, picnics, and parties at this "groves" in Rock Creek Park

BUTT...
just a little further north on Beach Drive there are some "older" public toilets
in my years of riding bikes and hiking dogs on these trails I had some awkward encounters
walking up on "boy on boy" encounters
some of these spots become meet up
too isolated to entertain homeless people
but there are still the "short comings" of having these public toilets
they attract unintended behavior

there is some talk with the ANC of my neighborhood
they have mentioned that they are working with the National Park Service to bring facilities to Fort Slocum

I just do not think it is a good idea
I feel that a public toilet will not be so much for the neighborhood visitors of the park
but instead
it will draw people to hang\party\and camp at the park
the toilets will be trashed and too dirty for man or beast in the first 24 hours
if heated...
people would sleep in the stalls over night
why not?

I just do not think that a bathroom at Fort Slocum would do more good than harm
it just would not get the upkeep and clean up that it needs

downtown some of the bathrooms handle things such to avoid things getting trashed

at the freshly renovated Franklin Park
they have an beautifully designed public bathroom
but... but...
but they are doing things differently
the bathrooms had a attendant
they are monitoring the area
they are controlling access to the toilets

WOW!
they guy granting me access was polite
the toilet was CLEAN...
not a drop of urine on the toilet seat

toilet was clean when I entered
I made sure it was clean when I left

I thanked the attendant
we spoke about the notion of "why we can not have nice things"
voiced my appreciation for his efforts

so different than going to the bathrooms at the Martin Luther King Library
the smells... the sounds...
trying to wash your hands in the bathroom while the person along side you is undressing and taking a bath in the sink

we need more public bathrooms
so that...
private restaurants are not responsible for being the bathrooms to the public
it is DISGUSTING
total roll of the dice
so many fast food places are kind enough to share their bathrooms with the public
and sadly... it shows...
they can not clean things as fast as they get messed up

as cruel as it may be to refuse people from using the bathroom
it makes sense

just as Franklin Square has an attendant in the public bathrooms
when the National Portrait Gallery had its Holiday Bazaar there were public toilets
they had a trailer with new and clean heated bathrooms were onsite
these toilets had an attendant controlling access to the bathrooms
ah...
it was neat and clean
and well heated
more than likely locked up in the evening and not opened until the Holiday Market started
is the attendant the ONLY solution?

maybe the facilities do not have to be heated and nice
simple and clean would be enough
basic Porta Johns here and there will routine cleaning should be enough

enough on this

just wanted to throw this down as I sip my coffee
