Shawn Bega was tragically killed on a road ride in Western Maryland
a massive loss to local cycling community
a greater loss to Begas close friends
Andy and Bega were the closest of friends
sharing a love of bicycles and hockey

not just courier culture
deeper
Bega worked at a variety of bicycle shops
Bega hosted bicycles races
Bega was a consultant on bicycle events
so on and so forth
although I do not have that many photos of Bega
I do have an assortment of images of Andy Zalan
different bikes
different outfits
different seasons
different facial hair
making deliveries... the UPS guy
not sure what AZ is doing

so many shots make it appear that the cars are not involved in the moment
that is the misconception of so many of the shots
the timing of it all
so... included are a few shots like this

Andy went to Art School for Photography at the Corcoran here in Washington, DC
me... I am snapping photos with a camera
less art... more documentation
the above shot with the Hot Dog Stand
to me... that is a story of a DC of a different time
so many photos have a little bit of a Hot Dog stand poking into the shot in the background
there was a time when there was a hotdog stand on every corner
now...
fewer hot dog carts
more food trucks
and certainly has some stories
then ontop of that Andy has some photos
Andy could create a book... several books
this book project I am working on is just photos
there may be some words at the start and the finish
there will not be names or stories to go with the photos
future edits could have words
but right now
the photo book is a monster on its own
getting in with words
editing and fact checking
well... that is more than I am looking to address right now
