The Dead City Alleycat 2021 was a Not for Profit Event that gave a percentage of the proceeds to Gearin Up Bicycles...

last week I ran an errand...
drove across town to Gearin Up Bicycles at their new location on Rhode Island Avenue in Northeast Washington DC

1811 Rhode Island Avenue NE

went over to Gearin Up Bicycles to make a donation from The 2021 Edition of The Dead City Alleycat
brought over a bag of goodies and a handful of cash

200 Dolars Cash
and bag of plenty

t-shirts... maybe 20 bottles of Pedro's Lube... some new cycling medals... and one of those BMX finger flip bikes...
maybe a few other things were in that bag

it felt good...
good to finalize the details of a race that happened a week prior
good to donate to a local bicycle coop that does so much good for the local youth and the local cycling culture in general
and also...
good to see the new location and meet the new Executive Director

looking at this new location I wonder
what are they allowed to do with the exterior of this building
right now... it is looking a little rough around the edges
but what is allowed to be done?

could they paint\decorate the exterior?

I would love to see local muralists come in and pretty up this exterior

maybe Words, Beats, Life or DC Walls could be commissioned to paint the exterior?

this could be such a cute little store front
but right now it is lacking...
and well...
it would be nice if things were a little more pretty

and

just a thought... something to be considered

it seems superficial... but I think it could be cool
some murals on the exterior and on the interior could breath some excitement into this new space

another thought I had...
HOMEWORK BIKES!!!
there may be people who want to help... but do not have the time to go to the location to volunteer
maybe there could be some volunteers who take home a bicycle that needs repair
they volunteer takes the bicycle home and works on the bicycle at home... like "homework" hence the name... "homework bike"

then return the bike once finished...
this could be a way to enlist some more help
while also helping to tackle the daunting task of getting all the donated bikes ready for sale

another thought... just another thought...
